How much does SEO cost in South Africa?

Understand SEO scope, once-off work and monthly costs. Compare Engage X’s transparent growth packages and the questions to ask before signing a proposal.

The useful answer starts with scope. A small local business with a clear service offer needs a different plan from a large online shop with thousands of product pages. Before comparing prices, compare the work that each proposal actually includes.

For an Alberton or Johannesburg service business, the first priority may be a website Google can crawl, useful service pages, accurate local business information and an enquiry route that works. Paying for a large content programme before those basics are sound can leave the real buying journey unfinished.

What are you paying for?

SEO work may include a technical review, repairs, search-demand research, service-page improvements, original content, local profile work and measurement. Ask which activities are included, which are optional and who implements the changes. A report identifying a broken page is different from a proposal that includes repairing it.

Separate the initial recovery work from ongoing work. Redirects and page structure may need a concentrated initial effort; content development, competitive research and performance review need continued attention. Your proposal should show both, with an accountable owner.

Our published package prices

Engage X offers connected marketing packages: Foundation at R9,500/month, Growth at R18,500/month and Full-Service at R32,000/month, excluding VAT. These are integrated growth packages, rather than quoted prices for a standalone SEO service. The SEO scope and other disciplines are prioritised in your proposal.

Six-month prepayment saves 10% on the package fee; annual prepayment saves 15%. Advertising spend and third-party costs are separate unless your agreed proposal states otherwise. Review the package details before choosing a commitment.

Measure commercial progress

Start with a baseline: indexed commercial pages, relevant search impressions, non-brand clicks and qualified enquiries. A rise in traffic from an irrelevant topic is less useful than a smaller increase in customers who need your service. Review whether enquiry quality and follow-up improve alongside visibility.

Google does not charge to include a page in organic search, and following its guidance does not guarantee a first-place ranking. Your agency fee pays for research, execution and improvement. See Google’s technical requirements and its SEO Starter Guide.
