What should a professional website cost in South Africa in 2026?

Compare website proposals by pages, content, functionality, enquiry handling, ownership and maintenance—not appearance alone.

A website quote is meaningful when the deliverables are clear. A compact service website, an online shop and a custom app involve different work. Comparing a total price without comparing scope can hide what happens after the design is approved.

For a local business in Alberton or Johannesburg, the website should help a customer understand the offer, judge whether the business is a good fit and take the next step. Design matters, but so do clear content, usable mobile layouts and a contact form that actually delivers.

Define the buying journey first

List your priority services and the questions customers ask before contacting you. Decide whether the next step is a quote request, phone call, booking or purchase. That determines the page structure and functionality more usefully than starting with a page count alone.

A pool specialist may need project photographs, service information and a quote route. A school-supply business may need an app or ordering process. Each requirement changes the work; neither should be squeezed into a generic promise that all websites cost the same.

What should the proposal specify?

Separate build fees from ongoing costs

Ask which charges are once-off and which recur. Hosting, domains, licensed tools, maintenance and third-party services may sit outside the build fee. Changes in functionality or content scope should be agreed before extra work begins.

Engage X’s published marketing packages start at R9,500/month excluding VAT. That is an integrated growth package price, not a standalone website-build quote. Website scope and any once-off work are confirmed in your proposal. See our pricing page for the package terms.

Check what “finished” means

Before launch, test the site on a phone, follow its main links and submit a real labelled enquiry to the receiving mailbox. Check redirects from old addresses, page titles and the sitemap. A success message on a form is not enough evidence of inbox delivery.

Confirm the content-management arrangement too. A custom static website and a WordPress theme have different editing workflows. The proposal should explain how you will update pages, publish new work and manage media after handover.

Use real work to assess the fit

Review examples relevant to your buying journey. Our SGS Pools and Sealcor Solutions project pages show completed website work. Use them to discuss structure, presentation and the kind of content your own customers need.

Bring your current website, desired functions, available content and main conversion goal to a growth-plan conversation. We will define a website and conversion scope before committing to a price.
